First responders from the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department got an unexpected delivery on Monday, June 5, according to the agency, when the local homeowner brought the device to their Brandywine station for evaluation.
The incident led to the evacuation of surrounding properties, including Gwynn Park High School, which was still in operation at the time.
Members of the department’s Bomb Squad inspected the package outside of the station, using robots to analyze, recover, and determine the package was safe at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, according to officials.
“The identification of the contents of the ammunition box remains undetermined until the completion of the investigation,” they added on Tuesday morning. “There were no associated criminal threats or injuries related to this incident.”
